Default NHRA decal

What did the NHRA window decal look like in the 1962-66 period? I've seen one version with a single roadster and another split version with two cars, a front-engined rail on the left side and a sedan on the right.

Bill - try Goyda.com. He usually has some NHRA decals in stock. I can't access from this computer.

Thanks Sam, I'll check it out.

Glenn, why am I not surprised that you have the correct decal? Thanks!

I would bet tht Glenn's is earlier than Bob's. Note that on Bob's decal, the sedan has a rear spoiler and below it says "Championship Drag Racing". I've seen both of these lately but have no clue as to the dates, etc. I still have one from around 1966 that I got at the US Nats in Indy and it does not have the spoiler on the sedan.

The older decals are much cooler than the new versions.

I also noticed the "spoiler" sedan vs. the rounded-trunk sedan during my decal search. I wonder when the change took place? "Spoiler sedan" decals probably indicate a 1968-ish change (?) since cars like the Shelby Mustang and Z/28 were introducing spoilers at that time and diggers were still front-engined in '68. I did find a pair of "round-sedan" decals for the '55.

Bill,
Check that stash of old car magazines you have and look for NHRA ads. They should have the current decals pictured so that should be a pretty good way of telling when changes were made..

DUH. Thanks Verne! You're right, I have an ideal reference source downstairs! Now I have a good reason to once again immerse myself in my old car magazines for an hour or two. I'll let you know what I find!

DUH! I knew you had them from the endless (interesting) posts you made on the vintage wheels thread. (one of my favorite threads of all time!)
