Here's the story: My dad passed away a few months ago. And he always told me a car he had in the 60s. A Biscayne with a 427 engine, from what I've seen with a pic, a 1968. He loved this car, and now, I'd like to clone one as close as possible as the one he had.
He told me that the police departement in his home town in canada had ordered 2 biscaynes Police package. When they received them, they were 2-door. So the local dealer took them and sold them to the public. (It was like brick red). My dad always told me how quick it was and it could beat anything. Without being able to say which 427 it was, he always said it was the one from the corvette. Once, I showed him a car with 427-385 and looking at it he said it was not his engine. He said with his, the air filter was much larger and it said something like: "super-high output" or something like that. Not sure about what was written on it but maybe something like that. would you have any idea on the engine used it that? Is it a L-72 or a special different 427 could have been used exclusively for police packages? Did you ever see a car like the one I am describing? Do you think it is something I can find or will I need to clone it starting with a basic biscayne with 327? If you have any other links or info on these biscaynes or know people who could help me, that would be nice, thanks a lot

Hi Louis...
- Sorry for the loss of your Dad but very nice how you want to clone a similar unit in his memory.. Is there an actual pic of your Dad's car or did you show him pics and he identified the '68?. Also just in case it's possible, do you happen to have any paperwork from his car that may have the Vin noted?. Although uncommon, 2Dr. post Police cars were built and both myself and another guy that haunts this site have '67 RCMP 2Dr. post Biscaynes.. Do you know if your Dad's and the other car were brought in for the RCMP or a Township Police Dept?. Here's a cool pic one of the guys laid on us a few months back of a Nova Scotia RCMP station w/ a '67 2Dr. Post parked outside.. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/258...OOR%5B2%5D.jpg ~ Pete ![]()

I have a pic of the front half of the car, trying to find it going through his boxes. Also have a pic of the speedometer. Have to find it also, working on this.
It was brought to Trois-Rivières. So it was for The Trois-Rivières Police department in quebec. Or for the provincial police I guess but in Trois-Rivières. The car came in from GM with the police package but was never turned into a police car, they refused it because they wanted 2 4-doors. Then "Trois-Rivières Chevrolet" sold the 2. Today, I'll try to find the pics and post them so people can help me. I think it's a 1968 talking with my mom about it. Don't have the vins. Anyone knows a way to find them? thanks for your help, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about those cars.

I have parted a few 68 police cars over the years and remember quite a few in our home town where they had 6 alone in the 68 body style.
I remember nothing special about the 427 385 hp engines other than they had a special oil filter adapter to use the old cannister vs the spin on. None were two doors and none were red.Not saying they could not be. In fact I have never seen a true police package in red.Fire Dept vehicles yes. 90% had the power disc brakes with rally wheels and just the police caps, special ball joints, special seats, wiring etc. But nothing was consistent. Some had F41 and posi and some didnot some had 140 speedo and others didnot, some had rear window winders others the windows were fixed. Did I ever see a 427 425 hp factory in a police car.Yes twice and both were original. Both were 4 door black interceptors, bench seat 4 spds, with standard brakes and steering, smog, open element air cleaner, chrome covers and a 68 buick steering wheel. Both had tach and guages, 140 speedo and no radio. Also memeo or copo was on the cowl tag. I would do some more digging with people that may remember your dad's car to try to determine if it was a true police package.Cloning a police package correctly would not be easy pending how detailed you would like to go. To answer your question yes a 425 HP 427 was a option in a 68 cop car. |

from what I remember, it was brick red (kinda brownish red) But maybe it was considered maroon. Have to find the pics. Will do that today.
If I can also find the speedometer pic, we can see if it was a 140mph speedo. I know it had the police hubcaps and no radio.

Though hard to see in this shot, this is my 68 SS427 with the 140 speedo. Most Impala/Biscaynes and Bel Airs had the 120 mph speedo.

i know he didn't have a engine pic. But I showed him a 427 like this once and all he said is the air filter was bigger in diameter than this. In looks, He didn't seem to be impressed by the 427-385 engine compared to what he had.
