Default FOUND! Sitting in a pasture - '69 SS!

I know I'm going to get a "this post s*cks w/o a pic" response but bear w/ me. I went to check on a Camaro that I knew to be sitting in a pasture field (complete w/ cows and horses) for the past 4 years and hasn't moved. Stopped today to see if it and another '69 was for sale. Of course the response was "I'm gonna fix her up". YEA, YEA. He says it is supposed to be a real SS but he "hasn't run the numbers". Car is to have been from S.C. and had the nose taken off of it in a wreck and the SS emblems removed while in a salvage yard. I knew from seeing it from the road that it has a factory ducktail spoiler. I ask if I can look at it which he says "yep" to . Get out there only to see a really junk COWL INDUCTION hood laying across the subframe and firewall. I look inside and can see a 120mph speedo and 4-spd pedals! Go around to the back and the spoiler is defineately real. Go back up around front and lift the hood to see the cowl tag and he mentions it has A/C! Now for the tag part. Since he wasn't crazy about me taking pics I tried to memorize the tag and probably failed miserably.

Hey Lon, it's nice to see somebody else on this board who is a little fuzzy on their Camaro ID #'s. Now that I own one less Vette, I'm getting the itch for a 69' Yenko or COPO clone (gotta get my MOPAR/BOWTIE ratio back to 50/50). I've got a lot to learn before I'll be comfortable shopping for one though. Sounds like neat find, keep after him.

Steve,
With 257 views and only 1 response I'm beginning to think that we aren't the only ones fuzzy .

"Found! Sitting in a pasture" for only 4 years? Doesn't seem very notable to me

(just telling what I thought when I read it)

I'm assuming the 11D is the date code which means it's either an early car(made in Nov 1968) or a very late car(made in Nov 1969). I'll guess it's a 68 made car with the 11D date so therefore it probably didn't have any X code on it. Did you notice an X11 or X55 on the right side of the trim tag? What was the VIN on the dash(that will help determine which year it was made)? If it is an early car then the cowl hood is not original to the car since they did offer that option until Dec I think. Did it have power disc brakes? Did it have a 12 bolt rear and multileaf springs? Did it have factory dual exhaust with the reinforcement plate welded on the driver's side framerail? Did you look to see what the engine code was? People have been building fake SS cars for a long, long time. You need to go back and get more details from the car to hope to determine if it's a real one or not.

I remember an 11 above the T11D

Didn't know to look there.

With it looking like it had 1 repaint this is a possible add-on.
[ QUOTE ]
Did it have power disc brakes?

[/ QUOTE ]
Don't remember a booster
[ QUOTE ]
Did it have a 12 bolt rear and multileaf springs?

[/ QUOTE ]Did not look under, not that cow frisbees scared me from looking there
[ QUOTE ]
Did it have factory dual exhaust with the reinforcement plate welded on the driver's side framerail?

[/ QUOTE ]I don't think this would be possible to see without getting the car off the ground further.
[ QUOTE ]
Did you look to see what the engine code was?

[/ QUOTE ] No engine or front fenders, grille......

This is the information I was looking for so I could be more informed when I go back.

since I back by this car today I thought I'd post a pick of it in the pasture. Try to stop by on Tuesday when I go to get Collin.

Lon,

Look on the bright side, at least the grass is short. Not sure
if by mower or grazing though.
