Default Hey Mr. 70...or Camarojoe!!!!

I got this email from my brother Gary...does anyone have an opinion??? Thanks!

Hi Bruce,

The other consultant, and I both got our Chevy Service signs!
We replaced the plexi windows with new plexi. (The replacement plexi cost 40 each, and I did the installation). The Chevrolet Service signs are plastic adhesive signs. I got the best one (no cracking). Gary's sign has cracks, but still looks cool. The other signs got progressively worse as you went down the building.

The dealer was S.M. Rose Chevrolet in The Bronx. Please see the following link.

S. M. Rose, 77, Dealer And TV Car Salesman - New York Times
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...55C0A966958260

The Sears store I just closed, (a 5 floor department store), at was located on Fordham Road. The signs were in the off site warehouse located around the corner. This warehouse is in the former S.M. Rose service department - paint booth and all. Checkout the driveway UP to get to the service bays!
And, YES - that is ME taking the first window out.

My guess is, that the Chevrolet Service signs are mid-60's. The Yenko members thoughts as to the age?

Thanks,
Gary

I used to call on this dealership back in the late 70's..pretty sure he went by his middle name, Mike....I remember those commercials..he was very dry, but people remembered his ads...there were still alot of the old line Chevy guys around then...University Chevrolet by Yankee Stadium, Hub Chevrolet on Bruckner Blvd.,Curry in Scarsdale, Byrne Bros. on Virginia Rd in White Plains, TA Byrne in Mt. Kisco, Hory Chevrolet in Larchmont on the Post rd....those were great old days...I can still remember the 100's of yellow Impala taxi cabs at Hub Chevrolet...wish I was really in the hobby then...couldhave collected some neat parts and dealer stuff!

So you are saying that you are one of those dreaded new comers to the hobby Tom? Should be buying stocks and boats instead of cars? No wonder!!

That Chevrolet advertising design first came out in 1970,not before.
They continued with it well into the next three decades.
Try to post a close up pic of the bowtie here,as it may be able to tell the decade.
It's far away, but looks more modern to me then 1970.
Try looking on the bottom border for a date code resembling something like CE 77 for the maker/year.That being window trim,it might be double sided.Blue is usually unstable from the get go,so there probably showing heavy sun fade more on one side then the other.
Neat piece...any illuminated signs inside?

These are single sided, and sun faded. They measure about 22" square. I will look for a date when I get back home. As for other signs, - we found none except as shown in the photos. There is still the large red neon sign for "S.M. Rose" about 2 blocks away on Fordham. It think it was on their showroom, You can still see the drive up ramps. The building is now a carpet store, and the sign has no relevance to the store's name. The odd thing is that the neon is illuminated 24 hours a day. I guess someone forgot to turn off the switch!

Personally, I'd guess they're from the early 80's, maybe late 70s.
