Am I the only guy that thinks the hobby has a black clould over it lately?? So many people saying prices are falling, dooms day is coming etc..(and some seem they cant wait for it to happen??) when infact numerous records are being set at sales just about every month..(Otis auction and the another one last month in IL. I forget who had it but it had record prices on just about everything) everyone judges the market by ebay (scam city)or auctions that are full of the same cars over and over again that nobody wants. And to top that off all this crap about this site and that site fake super cars, fake paper work blah blah blah...all it does is cast doubt on everything! All were doing is shooting ourselves in the foot!!
This isnt directed at anyone just my thought from reading post on other cars sites and talking with people in general. Just like to hear what others are thinking?? ![]()

I think things are correcting themselves just like the housing market. Things have to level off somewhere for awhile. Besides a true car guy doesn't really care about what his car is worth because he just enjoys owning it and hopefully driving it on occasion! Stocks are an investment, land is an investment, 401 K's are an investment. Cars should be a hobby. Only the REAL car guys want the prices to come down so we can buy more.

As long as I can get gas, I don't see any black clouds. Just had my Cuda' out one last time before the blizzard, nothing's gonna wipe the smile off my face that comes with flogging these old rides. I'm not too worried about prices either, corrections are inevitable but I've always bought what I liked to drive, or cloned what I wanted, but couldn't afford. Enjoy the hobby and don't let that other stuff ruin your perspective JMO

There is no doubt in my mind that the feeding frenzy is over for the time being. Good cars are still selling for decent money, but it is taking longer and buyer's are much more cautious compared to 2005. I think this is good for the hobby personally as things got way too crazy last year. I haven't seen too many records being set lately, so I can't support that comment, but I have seen a few cars go for good money, but they were good cars

Andy...I am tired of all the BS, too! What i like about this site is all of the friends that I've made here. The cars are just a common ground for all of us to meet at. I didn't really buy my car as an investment. If it makes money,fine...if not...I have a blast everytime the family and I take it out. I have also come in contact with some really AWESOME people while hanging at Pavillions.
So all I really have to say is ![]()

In some ways I agree, in some ways I don't.
If you think there's been a black cloud lately, all I can say is "Where have you been?!" Things have been like this for the past few years. I really have no idea if the market is slowing down or not. But using record prices to prove that it's still going strong is a not correct in my book. I think the rich players are gonna finish snapping up the creme de la creme, and then the regular cars will fall to a point where they're more affordable. But the most desirable cars will remain high because the collectors that have corralled them will keep the prices high and trade among themselves. |

Good point! I agree with Sam too! ![]() I was out a few weeks ago at a TGI Fridays and overheard this guy who was wearing a sweater over his back and the arms wrapped around his neck with a diamond pinky ring bragging about a Camaro he just bought. When I heard CAMARO....like a dog, my ears turned around to catch the conversation!!! ![]() I immediately reconized that his hands told the whole story. Besides his "personal apendage", neither his right or left hand had held anything more complicated then a MontBlanc pen!! ![]() So, my wife says, "Jeff, please, not again; leave this guy alone to enjoy his chocolate martini. I just want to watch the Iggles" I said, "okay dear".....then promptly turned around and asked him what year? Oh, it is a 69. "What engine in the car?" He looked at me with confidence and with a "you talking to me" grin and said it was a big block 327! that GM used bigger pistons for this engine!! Now.....I just said, "WOW...that IS a rare one, didn't make many of those" He said "I know, bought it at Spring Carlise. "Gears or Turbo?" was my next question. He said, "oh a TurboGlide".......ah-huh was my next thought.........now were talking. Bartender....gimmee another Tanquery & Tonic........................... ![]() So.....of course after a few more silly ass answers to my questions, I sprung the question....HOW MUCH? I watched his Adams Apple move deep into his throat when he said the guy wanted more but he "got him down" to $47,000. I said, 'FOURTY-SEVEN THOUSAND; like three zeros after the 47? (Deb promplty kicked me at the bar rail) He asked if I thought it was a good deal. I said "hell no, it was a great deal, I'm jealous". Only thing I didn't say was that the deal was great for the Seller!!! Said that the guy he negotiated with was selling it for his Aunt who had it stored since his Uncle died. Asked him if he got all the paperwork? He said that his Aunt was still looking for it with other stuff his Uncle kept and that eventually she'd find it and he'd get it! YEA, he got it alright. Hook, line and sinker! Well, the Iggles lost the game, McNabb tore his ACL and I had 3 too many T&T's. I told him maybe I'd see him on the road or at some car show, my car is yellow and is also a 69. He said," oh no, I'm not driving it, it's to rare for that. ![]() Goes to show you, keep your eye out for buyers who wear sweaters on backwards and guys like that obese gentleman at the B-J auction who changes his coat each time to match the color car he's selling; you just might see another sale that pushes the price further up & away from the true enthusiast. ![]() Like the car salesman says, there's an ass for every seat. ![]() Jeff ![]() ps. Bruce, Me & Mark will see you at The Pavillions and B-J. We'll treat you to a steak at Pinnacle Peak!
