I've seen worse cars (Red LS6 on Ebay) , sell for more ($20K+)

Ain't that the truth! That red LS6 was waaayyyyy worse than this 442 appears to be.

'--' paint code on the 442 Trim Tag, but '53 53' on the build card What's that about?

This is my understanding from deductive reasoning (rather than any hard facts.)

It seems there were 4 extra cost 442 colors. One is Agean Aqua, then there's Sebring Yellow, Rallye Red, and some gold. These cars often got the "--" like special-ordered colors, although they were RPO for the 442. I've seen this a bunch of times, but it doesn't make sense from other GM brands out there.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation to me
