Hookers and Thrush were both used.

Here's a 1968 photo of a B-M '68 Camaro just after having a set of Corvette sidepipes installed. If memory serves, article stated that special Heddman Headers were used that angled 90-degrees for hook-up to pipes.

That must be an early 68 the nose stripe is 67 style.
All she needs is a set of Vintage Torq-Thrusts... that would be tight! ![]()

I don't think anyone made headers to hook up the mid-year corvette side exhaust on a 1st gen. BB Camaro. All of the detailed pictures of Motion cars that I have seen show regular headers and then a custom "S" pipe to hook to the side exhaust. I recall one car that had the standard headers capped and then the Motion crew tapped into the side of the collector to tie it into the side exhaust. Thse methods seem pretty restrictive. At least you could uncap the headers in the latter version.

Here's the article on the Hedman 90-degree headers. From the 10/68 Speed and Supercar.

Great article and pictures! They show the pipes on a Nova, but if you read the article it says the pictures are from a '68 corvette getting '67 side exhausts. I looked pretty hard to find a BB header like that for a 1st gen. Camaro recently and came up empty. Would those Corvette headers work on a 1st gen. Camaro?

The article actually shows a Camaro* and the 'vette headers would probably work but

------I just went on Hedmans website and could only find references to small-block sidepipe headers, although I could be wrong. They made those big-block side-pipe headers for years and you can find them at swap meets now and then. If the Camaro uses Corvette style exhaust manifolds theres an even chance they would work. If the Camaro uses the rear exit cast manifolds I doubt they would work, but Im only guessing. Hope this helps.......Bill S
-------Its funny,,,all this fuss over factory chambered exhaust thats been proven to be more restrictive than good under-car exhaust!!!!!! |
