OK you Whiz-Kids, let's test your Braintrust on this one. Twenty-plus years ago I acquired a Los Angeles built 69 R/S Z/28 from the 2nd owner who brought the car back from Germany. Over the years I have tried to determine if this was originally an Export car or just one that was shipped over after it was sold in the USA. The previous owner (Charlie Brown was his actual name) told me had to swap out the Kilometer speedo to a MPH speedo in order to get it registered in the USA upon it's return, but I have no proof of that.
I managed to save about 2/3rds of the Chassis Broadcast sheet from the gas tank and many codes are still legible (after many hours of careful resurrection). So, are there any specific codes on the Broadcast sheet that would tell me it was an Export? I've heard that they may have used a different sway bar and perhaps other HD parts? I'm open to ideas here........ And just for FYI, it's a Burgundy, flat hood, white stripes, black deluxe interior car. And unfortunately, the original 302 was exploded on the AutoBahn..... Put on your thinking caps please !!!

Charles,
I can't help you, but PLEASE go over to the CRG WEB SITE and post your question there. I know Kurt and the other guys would LOVE to have a copy of your Chassis Broadcast sheet and they can probably answer your questions. You have to register, but it's free and simple to do... Ed

I haven't seen very many Chevrolet Exported vehicles, but of the few I have seen, they all had the RPO code ZP-8 listed on their buildsheets.
Officially,ZP-8 was The Manufacturers Statement of Origin code when selling a NEW vehicle from the United States to a Foreign Country,or when transferring said vehicle to an Individual IN a Foreign Country. It was the Manufacturers designation of making it void of any duty taxes. ![]() |

I have noticed that cars sent from Canada to Sweden had the W89, X14 and X17 options.

Export cars came from Norwood, not LA. Probably brought over by one of the owners prior to you.

Thanks for the input guys!! The Military route is what I always figured but you never know (they get cars shipped for free). That's why I was hoping Broadcast codes might be some sort of an indicator.
I'll post this message on the CRG website and see what those guys can dig up....... Thanks again, Charlie

Wow, those are cool ads !!!
And they are advertising buying new 1970 model GM cars yet show pics of a '69 Camaro and Corvette. You stated it's from Sept of '69, but would that happen to be a January 1970 date code on the bottom of the Ad? The reason I ask is because one of my old '69 Corvettes (LeMans Blue, just like in the photo, hmmm) was actually completed in January of 1970 at the factory (fully documented, even though the main production run had ended in December of '69). It took me years to get the DMV to change the registration to show it was a 1969 model year and not a 1970 Corvette...... Always curious about these things.........
