I've been offered a really cool '67 Z project car that I think I am going to buy (I know it would be cheaper to buy an already restored car, but this car is my favorite color and very, very well optioned). So, not having a lot of spare time or room, I need to come up with a plan that will allow me to at least do much of the assembly work with my 6 year old son and I'd like some advice. My thoughts at this point are to disassemble the car and send all of the major components out to various rebuilders while the body is at the body shop. Then I would restore the sub frame and install the motor in place, then take that and the rear axle to the body shop once the paint was done so they could do the final panel fit etc. Then bring the car home to finish it off. Does this make sense or is there a better way? Thanks in advance, Mark.

You are on the right track however ,before you embark on this project do an estimate on the parts missing, the parts you will need to replace. Give to the shops only what you absolutely must.In order to keep the costs down.Labour for a good Body shop today is about $60.00 per hour and when they get your car in there It will be a shocker when you finnish the body.You can have the rear end rims,heater box inside and outside,and all the other parts that are rusty and need lots of sweat to refinish like the drive shaft. Send them for chemical stripping when they come back they will be like brand new, then prime then yourself outside a nd then final paint them. Most body shops will not tell you what the final cost will be untill the body hass been blasted to see what is underneath so get ready to put a second morgage on hour house.If you want to do it right on a rotisery. anyway thats a start I am in the final stages of a complete body off restoration of my 68 Camaro. For others out there around the GTA, I also found a neat wheel resto service in Aurora called Carcones Auto Recycling (www.carcone.com). They blast, prime and powder coat rally wheels for $82 each and will pick them up and deliver them to your local mechanic or tire store.
