Default General Tires 1970

I came across a road test of a 1970 SS396 Chevelle in "1001 Custom and Rod Ideas" magazine, spring1970. The car is running General 700 Bia/Belt F70x14 fiberglass belted tires. Anyone remember these tires? I don't.

Those General Bia/Belts were Original Equipment along with Uniroyal Tiger Paws, Good Year Polyglas, and Firestone Wide Ovals. They were probably one of the smaller suppliers to GM so they didn't appear on as many cars as some of the more commonly remembered Goodyear and Firestone counterparts. Try finding a useable set nowadays, they're rare and expensive for sure.

One of the members on here has the original set of Generals on his low mile original 1970 LS6. That is the only car I have ever seen with Generals. I have seen lots of Goodyears,Firestones and even some Uniroyals. I fould a ste of Uniroyal G70-14 for my 442.

That's the 26 mile LS-6 above.
These tires were really not constructed well.I read a roadtest magazine article where they put different brands under the microscope, and the General 700 series was the first to give up the ghost.
I have seen a few sets stored in garages,as owners took them off faster then their A.I.R. pumps sometimes.
Dennis Cumby's LS-6 was assembled with them, and he still has the torn up hides.
