Default 66/67 Ford Product Decoding??

Is there anyplace on the Web to find out how to decode VINs and Data Plates for 66 and 67 Ford products?

Here's that good Mustang one. . Not sure if other models work here or not? . If not, perhaps you can link through to something else from it? . Good luck! ~ Pete

One thing you need to be aware of is that sometimes Ford and Merc used different codes for the same engine.

Pete, thanks but it apparently only works for Mustangs and I couldn't find a link to anything else that does work

Anders, thank you, I have sent an email to '[email protected]' and we'll see what comes of it

Dave, don't worry, I am looking for my brother-in-law....but I have to admit I really do like the 66 - 67 Fairlanes and Comets

442, thanks, how goofy that Ford could somehow confuse engine codes between marques

I don't know why they did things differently.

For example, the 289 hi-po Mustangs are "K" codes, but Comets and Cyclones are not "K".

Another one is from 1970. The CJs (both 428 and 429) on Fords have two codes dependent on whether they had ram air or not. A 428 is a Q without the induction and R with. But, for a Cougar, they're both Q and ram air was a seperate option that was not designated with a code. This counts for the 429CJ on the Cyclones - all were Cs but for a Ford, it's a C or J, respectively.

Confusing sure but at least it's in the Vin unlike the pre '72 GM stuff. .
