Default Correct 68 valve covers

I'm looking into Crane valve covers for my BB ( May built ) 68 Chevelle. Crane lists Jan 68 thru 69 including COPO, L-78 etc. as the same part no. The question I have is this: Should the 68 left side valve cover, have the temp wire clip like the 69's? The 69 Chevelles have the temp wire coming from the wire harness near the center of the wheel well, then thru the valve cover clip to the sender. The 68, with the short water pump, and driver side alt. has the temp wire coming off the wire harness by the back of the alt. and is not long enough to go down to the clip (which is down by number 5 spark plug) , then back to to the sender. Seems like the 68's shouldn't have a clip cause theres no way the wire is long enough to use it. I know the wire harness is correct cause it's exactly like the original. When I order these $500.00 valve covers I would like to know what I'm talking about.... Thoughts?

68 Nova driver side has two tabs one in the middle down by the exhaust side and one in the back at the top of the cover, both are for the plug wires.

Kim...The plug wire tabs are in the same location on both 68 & 69 BB valve covers. There is no question with regards to the plug wire tabs.
I am asking about the clip for the temp sender wire... Just can't seem to be able to figure out why the clip would be there if it's not used till 69.
If I'm gonna spend $500.00 for 68 valve covers, I would expect them to be correct for my application, and not just put 69's on it.

Bill Here is what I've learned so far. 67s have two clips on top of the valve cover, 68s don't have any and 69s have one on the bottom. Hope this helps

That sounds correct. I called Crane today, and they told me 68's and 69's should be the same with the temp wire clip but I'm 99% sure thats wrong. I'm going to look at what I know to be an original 68 valve cover this weekend to be sure. Why would the clip be on the 68's if it wasn't used till 69. It makes no sence.

I have a set that I believe is original to 68 Chevelle and the driver's side valve cover is the same as 69, except, the wire clip for the temp sending unit is not there. If you want to send me an email as a reminder, I can get you a picture tomorrow.

Woj...I'd like to see that pic. I couldn't find your email. I now know the temp wire clip shouldn't be on the left side 68 Chevelle valve cover. I'm wondering if the back of the left cover should be as slanted, like the Crane covers I've seen for 69's....

Just looked close at the pics I have of my old Gibb Nova. I am wrong they have the clip on the pass side valve cover. My cover is the same as your pic of your 68 camaro same dimple and clip. Kim
