Default Hone-O-Drive questions

I was directed towards this post for information on the Hone-O-Drive units used in the early 70's on some of the muscle cars. I purchased a nice old Ford F-100 (75) a couple years ago. It came with a Hone-O-Drive unit attached to the 9 inch rear. The seller also gave me another full unit, plus another casing, a box of new planetary gears, etc. My question is the other unit has couplers on both ends, whereas the one on my truck attaches directly to the differential. Is this other unit the type they used on other makes/models of cars? It would have to be coupled with a drive shaft on both ends. The only numbers I find, other than what appears to be a serial number, is L-1000. Oh, the truck also came with a Dixco HT/X hood mounted tach in like new condition, it was quite a find. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Terry

Thanks Mike, that info helps a lot, I'm guessing this unit attached directly to the yoke coming off the tailhousing. The shifter in the photo looks to be the same one he gave me with the extra drive unit.

The one on the truck,is just for Fords--bolting directly on the diff. housing and replacing the pinion gear.--The other one you have is a universal set-up-- find--

Joe,
I'd love to see one of those installed on a car. Did you order your Chevelle with one? What gears are you running?

Verne-----------No the car wasn't ordered with the Hone unit--car was ordered with 456s---Motion didn't offer the Hone unit until early '70----I had Motion install the Hone unit along with 488's--(not to void my factory warranty) late '70.
