Default 1969 Cougar Eliminator SCJ 428

Anyone know anything about these cars. There was a classic car auction today and a restored numbers matching 69 Eliminator was auctioned. It is orange with a black interior. The reserve wasn't met but it is still in the car corral for sale. Anyone know what these things are worth?
Thanks, James

Money wise it depends is it a auto or 4speed is the car in #1 or#2 codition. All these things factor in on the value of any muscle car.I can give you some production figures on these cars. There are two production figures flotting out there for the 69 Eliminator I'm not sure which one is accurate.
TOTAL
1969 Eliminator-2250 or 2411

Out of that total there were 243 Eliminators with the 428CJ&SCJ.I dont have break down for trannys.

Theres a guy named Kevin Marti and he has published two books one is on the Mustang and the other is on the Cougar. These two books give very detailed production figures(engine and trany combos and how many with certain options ect.)It also has tech stuff for every motor available in a certain model of Mustang or Cougar. If your interested heres his phone# 623-935-2558 Afew years ago I called him about his books and at the time he was still working on the cougar information,so I'm pretty sure that he's done with it.

When I was in college, I had a buddy who had a white 67 Cougar. He wrecked it, and bought a green one. I always liked the cars, and ended up buying them after getting out of college. I bought several other 67-70 Cougars, with the intention of building one wicked Cougar. After I was well into the project, I bought a solid 70 Eliminator Boss 302.

Anyway, I bought a 71 Trans Am, lost all interest in the Cougars, and sold all of them in the mid-80s. I still had a bunch of very nice 67-68 Cougar parts. Since then, I got heavy into Pontiac, especially T/As and 70-72 GTOs. In general, I can tell you it's hard to sell Cougar parts. Example: I had a perfect original paint 67 Cougar front clip, complete. I tried to sell it for several years, and finally sold the whole thing, bumpers, fenders, hood, lights bumper, etc. for $500. Had that been a GTO or early Firebird, it would have brought much more money.

I haven't been too impressed with the Cougar people I've dealt with. The parts don't bring much money and the owners don't like to spend money. Even the Boss 302 car didn't bring much. The motor was out of the car, and I ended up selling the drivetrain to a Mustang owner.

A rare car like a 428 Cougar Eliminator might bring good money now, but I'd be afraid the Cougar stigma would hurt it.

I'm just curious, what was the asking price?

Thanks,

Mike

It sounds like a good choose going from cougars to TA's and GTO's.jfkheat has'nt told me what that Eliminator went for on the auction.

Thanks for the info. I didn't get a chance to talk to the owner yesterday. I don't know anything about these cars so I'm not sure how correct the car is. The reserve wasn't met at $20K. I think he was looking for $25K but I could be wrong. I will post a couple pictures of the car later today.
