Default Where do you shift your BB?

.......so, this past Saturday, my 5 childhood friends show-up with a bushel of Maryland Crabs, (Old Bay seasoning of course) REAL HOAGIES (or sub-sandwiches as some call them) from Chester, Pa. and some Coors Lights for a belated 50th....YEA...I said 50th BD Party. After talking about the days of the all the cars we had (AND WISH WE KEPT....like the green 69 396/375 Nova SS with benchseat and T400 on the column I DIDN'T BUY and bought a 65 SS Impala with a 396/325) instead...DUH?!, spitting crab shells and drinking the hot sauce, at 2:30 am Sunday we head for the garage.....Yes, I took it out. Woke the neighbors up after puttin heat into the motor and took it on the Marne Highway. NOW, I don't know where you guys live, but even the Jersey Mosquitos were pissed when I shifted 1-2 the 2-3 at 7800! At 6800 in 3rd, I lifted in fear of the Mt Laurel pole-leece, and the needle being buried past 120mph...GOD as my witness, let alone the Stahl Tell-Tale tach! Man, I think I got the Baddest-Ass Musle car like the previous post asks for everyone opinion. If any of you get to South Jersey, drop me a line. The crabs, the Coors and the ride you will NEVER forget is on me!

"This beast is still pulling @ 7800." Had a home built L-88 in a 68 Camaro convert that would pull through 7200 with a richy 5-speed...man that car was fast.

Go sleep it off, and be thankful you didn't hit anything!

This is why I have a 6500 rev limiter on my car.
The bone-stock exhaust holds me back, but the guy who built my engine said that with an open exhaust 7500 rpm would be no problem.
Just remember that you're sitting on the power train warranty every time you get in the car.

-------I dont know what cam you are running, but when we built Red Alerts motor we built it to make its power at 7000 and it was a race car that weighed 3900lbs and ran in the low tens. Engine dynoed at 765 at 7000rpm. Any faster than that would peal a tenth or two off. What you were doing may have been fun but I cant believe it was optimal! Please dont take this as a slam. Its not intended that way, but you had to be out of your RPM band. I would be interested in hearing weather you felt the engine flatten out up there or not. If its a factory spec cam it would start to run out of steam around 6500. Also, what are the specs on the cam you are twisting?............Bill S

7800 is impressive but without proper valvetrain thats really dialed in (particularly on a bbc)I dont know if i'd try it too many times.

I was out in my blown Z and pulled 2 gear and it went boom!! It never hit the rev limiter, it blew a head gasket on the right side. It did put down 200 foot of rubber though!
