A buddy here local showed me this car about a year ago...my buddy's a logger as is the owner of the car. Anyway, don't know if it's real, but an *interesting* story behind it. Might wanna bring along your shotgun if you go stompin' around in that neck of the woods, though...

I doubt that its a original 1968 Factory Sox & Martin car. The Mopar people seem to agree that only 50 Barricudas and 50 Darts were built The Ebay seller claims it to be # 70!
Best to check with the Mopar numbers Guru Galen Govier and run the VIN by him. Don't make a high dollar mistake. Galen V. Govier Prairie du Chien, WI 53821 (608)326-6346

[/ QUOTE ] I don't see any claim of the car being #70 in the item description, only that 70 total were built. As far as it being a "factory Sox & Martin car" that's like saying a "factory Yenko." There is no such thing, but I don't see the seller calling it that either. It is simply stated as a "factory racecar" with a "Sox & Martin prepared" motor...which it very well may have, but that's tough to back up without some conclusive documents. I think the obviously added (no lettering whatsoever) Sox & Martin paint scheme may be throwing people for a loop here. Let's not throw this guy under the bus just yet. While I'll be the first to admit I'm no expert on these cars, from what I can see it's got at least a few potential signs of legitimate Hurst prepped S/S heritage. The A100 van seats and aluminum brackets are present, as is the lightweight glass and "seat belt" strap in lieu of regular crank regulators in the doors. It even looks like a radio delete plate in the dash. The ad also claims it's got a 'glass front end and lightweight doors. The B029 prefix is also correct (or so I've read here) for a base Barracuda body upon which Hurst performed these conversions, and even the intake and air cleaners look like potential S/S items to me. I agree, I wouldn't just assume the car is legit without having some documentation or an expert opinion from someone like Mr. Govier, but to write the car off without a second look because of the brief description might be a bit hasty IMO. The seller seems honest enough, listing a telephone number to call with questions. I guess if anyone's interested they should just call the guy up and listen to "the story" for themselves. |

This car used to reside just east of us here over in the flat country...the owner(s) were loggers, and dabbled in everything from sawmilling to car salesman to under the table stuff. As with most logging operations, it was feast or famine there for several years, and the original owner was known to have dropped some serious coin on some cars during those "feast" times. But, along with that, I've heard stories of 'em getting run up for some pretty shady offenses, with vin tampering being one of 'em. The original owner I *believe* is dead, and the car is now in the hands of some kin folk...

Now let's you just drop them pants.....squeel like a pig!! ![]() See attach [/ QUOTE ] Poor Ned Beatty--what a way to have to try for an Oscar nomination. I wonder if they had to make several takes when they shot that "squeal like a pig" scene because they were all laughing? "CUT! Okay you guys, let's get serious. Ned, I want you to be on ALL FOURS. Bubbuh, don't let Ned get away so easily, okay? OKAY PEOPLE ... AND ... ACTION!" |
