I picked up a nice dog dish for my 69 L-78 Nova at the flea market Sat, but unfortunely it has a ding in the dish on the edge of the outer center where it dishes. In other words it has a ding on the worse place but it is a small one.
Is there a easy way to fix this? It looks like a new hubcap otherwise. I love these guys that bring stuff out there when they are hired to clean out a storage locker at the rental places. You just never know what you will come across for a buck. He also had a perfect one like it but he wanted more for it. In fact he insisted that I pay double for the perfect one. Dam I sure hated to have to pay that much for them. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Pantera,
Can you post a picture of where the dent is? It might be easier for us to help you out with an easy fix then. James

My dad has had success fixing dents like this in his '32 Ford stainless headlight buckets. He starts by spraying a light film of silicone on the inside of the headlight bucket, or dog dish cap in your case, in an area that isn't dented, and then he gobs some body putty on the backside and allows it to fully harden. The putty will then pop right off the lightly oiled surface, and effectively, you've just made yourself a perfect dolly for removing dents elsewhere. I'd bet if you "cast" yourself up one of these small body putty dollies, from the same section of the perfect cap, you could use it to hammer out the offensive dent pretty smoothly. Just a thought...it's worked for us.

you wont believe this but grab a old 350 harmonic balancer and lay the cap on your bench in a smooth spot and start working the balancer back and forth on the ding it will push right out and the balancer has just the right edge on it and the weight of it really helps make the work pretty easy, the trick is to hold the cap at a angle and also work the balancer so it is pushing firmly on the ding and the bench with no gap between the cap and the bench or you will make a outwards ding! Yikes! keep flipping it over and look where your low spot is, you did some body work so I know you will see what I am talking about, gently wet sand the outside where the blem was and polish her back up...

All offering good advise..
Also try a Auto Bodyshop thats been around along time.I found one here that still had Obsolete dollys to work with the older cars.If you live around an airport, check with a Aero shop. They encounter this kind of Damage more frequently, and ususally have the tools. |

I paid $10 for a set of 4 - 14" for my 1969 L-34 Nova about seven years ago. I guess you are taking about more than that.
