Default M G Porters LS6 ....too cool....

According to the 2 very legible buildsheets from my LS6 Chevelle, the car was the 4th car scheduled to be built in the Baltimore, MD plant on February 2. 1970. The car was headed to Reedman Chevrolet, the well-know repository for performance cars based in Langhorne, PA. This particular car was built for speed and little else, as it was equipped with the following options: SS454 LS6 package, cowl induction, M22 "rockcrusher" 4 speed transmission, 4:10 Posi rear differential, MANUAL steering, AM 8 track with dual rear speakers, console, SS wheels, WHITE STRIPED TIRES, white vinyl roof, forrest green paint with white SS stripes.

This mean machine was purchased by an unknown original owner on June 11, 1970 and returned to Reedman in early 1971 for some unknown reason. Maybe the car was too fast, perhaps the manual steering was too difficult for him to handle on the street. A John R purchased the car from Reedman in late Feb, 1971 for $2,999, trading in a '63 Impala in the process. John was issued a second-owner Protecto Plate (the car was still under warranty) and drove the car home to NJ. John proceeded to have a lot of fun with the car, cutting the plastic inner fenders to mount Hooker Headers. He laughed about how the car once had studded snow tires on it and would throw tremendous sparks when he laid rubber. He took great care of the car and took it off the road when he purchased a pickup truck for commuting purposes. The car was owned by a couple of collectors before ending up with me in early 2003. I had to sell a prized 1970 SS396 Chevelle with air to make room for this car, but it was worth it. The car is remarkable for two reasons: it's extreme originality (never been restored) and its impressive reams of documentation (2 build sheets, invoices, protecto plate, owner affadavits, a live and involved owner from 1971, old inspection stickers, original vin sticker on drivers door, inventory marks from Reedman Chevrolet still painted on the car).

Despite its originality and status, I drive the car periodically in the dry warm weather. One of the owners added a vintage sun tach and sun gauges under the dash. Although fun to drive and extremely fast, it's not a tourer, as the 4.10 gears, M22 and repop bias plys conspire to make the ride loud and imprecise. Nevertheless, it's a great reminder of how they used to build 'em and it sounds great breathing through a stock-type exhaust system with factory manifolds. Thanks to Bob for including the car in the member spotlight.

Best,

Morris

Your car is very special indeed! My LS6 and your LS6 have very similiar marks from Reedman.I have a yellow roman numeral 2 on the drivers door jam above the vin sticker and a faint red number on the air cleaner.I also have a Reedman service sticker in my glove box.I seen your car at Chevellabration 02 and was amazed at the Reedman dealership and Baltimore assembly plant similarities!Rick Nelson pointed the way to your car back then and I even told him how neat it was how both cars shared so much. Before the owner came over to open the door I said "I bet you have a yellow roman numeral 2 in your door jam"!Neat cars!My car is a 42K autumn gold LS6 that was made to run as well.I regret tossing the original dry rotted Uniroyal tiger paw white letter spare in favor of a set of Goodyears as well as other little detail things to this basicly untouched car but you live and learn.Good Luck!!

I don't think I've seen this combo before with the white top...I wasn't sure at first, but it's growing on me! Love the green...
