While I was attending Bowman Technical School in 1977 this 1968 Z/28 came up for sale. I believe it was advertised in the Lancaster PA, New Era newspaper around February 1977 for $2000.00 minus engine.
The car was located in the county of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Manheim or the Park City Mall area seems to me where it was located. It was off some major road. You can see in the passenger side picture it is showing the major road I am talking about with the building in the background. I was only twenty years old at the time and a big time Camaro enthusiast. I asked the owner if he added the ducted hood and the guy told me it was one of maybe five '68 Camaro's that came with it from the factory. I knew '69 Camaro's came with the ducted hood but being young and not real knowledgeable just accepted what he said as fact. He did add the extra grill work in front of the grill and lower valance and the fuel injection emblems. A sharp looking car! Does anyone remember this car or know of its whereabouts? I am not interested in buying it, just would like to know if it exists. Kinda brings me back to my youth. - Warren Last edited by WorkinProgress; 02-08-2018 at 08:59 PM. |

I remember a black with gold stripes '68 Z being advertised in Hemmings a very long time ago. Might have been the '90s or even the late '80s. I have always liked black and gold as a paint combo and I wondered whatever became of that car. Hemmings ads typically don't have pictures but I wonder if it could have been an ad for this car. I think the seller was claiming the paint scheme was original, hence a special order paint car.

GrumpyJeff, maybe you remember seeing the car from the main road that ran by there. No other info on the car.
I took the pictures with my pocket 110 camera and showed them to my friends back in Connecticut where I was from. By 1977 cars from the sixties era were just full of rust in Connecticut and I couldn't believe how much nicer the cars were in PA. Fred, I just sent you an email with the pictures. 1967Z28, sometime I will go through all my HMN. I have most issues from mid-eighties till the later nineties. I rarely checked out the cars for sale back then. Mostly was on the hunt for parts. If I had only written down the VIN. - Warren |

Almost looks like Rt 72 which is the main drag from Manheim to Lancaster, which I still drive everyday . looks very familiar ? Even though it's way more built up now . $2000 seems like a lot of money for a car without a motor in 1977 ? I remember we could buy pristine low mileage local 68/69 Z's for $2500 in the late 70's early 80's

Believe the car had 10,000 original miles on it.
I tried checking out the Lancaster New Era online archives to no avail. - Warren |
