This is more for my personal knowledge rather than anything specific I am working on, as I am now into Chevelles.
My understanding with the 69 Camaro Interiors is the following: 1) - Standard interior got the "non woodgrain" dash applique across the bottom drivers side where the various switches are located. 2) - Deluxe interior got "woodgrain" in this same location together with "woodgrain" in the glove box area. 3) - Standard interior with console and gauges got the "woodgrain" in the console and in the lower drivers side dash area, but nowhere else on the dash. This has come up when I look at the interior shots of Jim Mattison's COPO in another thread on here. That car has the console and gauges with the woodgrain on the console, yet no woodgrain on the drivers side lower dash. The 69 SS I did up years ago had the standard interior, console, gauges and had the woodgrain on the console and on the lower drivers side dash. I believe that car was a 3/69 built Norwood car while Jim's is a 6/69 Norwood car. Just thinking out loud I guess and wondering. Anybody got the correct scoop here? Appreciate it.

Actually, standard interior got no applique, the carrier has pebble grain in that area.
Z87 Deluxe Interior got the full treatment of wood grain (lower instrument carrier area, horn shroud, passenger dash area) Z23 interior accent group got lower instrument carrier area and horn shroud. I'm sure when D55 console was ordered, with either of the above, it got wood grain accents. The question is whether console included wood grain, non-Z23 standard interior. I would be interested in a confirmation, but I'm betting Mattison's console is correct! |

For clarification, the "lower instrument carrier area" included the headlight area, and radio area.
Has anyone ever seen the wood grain radio delete plate? Was the wood grain a metal insert in the standard delete plate, or was is a seperate piece with studs on the back, similar to the left of the steering column? |

i believe it was a metal insert over the standard plastic radio delete plate. it was fasened to the plate with studs through the plastic plate and nuts on the back

In 69, if it had a console, it got woodgrain on the dash carrier.

Hi guys,
Let me clear this up for you on Jims car at least. Console is original and correct to the car with woodgrain, lower dash panels on drivers side should have the woodgrain pieces but the dash carrier on his car was replaced due to the original having been cracked. This also accounts for the rear defog switch being in the dash carrier while Jims car did not have defog yet the car the carrier came from did. The woodgrain pieces for the drivers side are included with the car when sold. Also, once in my life I have seen a woodgrain radio delete plate, it was on a GM exec company car, L78, deluxe houndstooth, console with gauges, woodgrain on both sides of dash, and oddly a woodgrain radio delete. Dont ask me why, I never gave it a second thought back in 70 when I was dating his daughter, I happen to remember the radio delete plate well as we were always reaching for the radio knobs to turn on that wasnt there. Another odd thing I remember well on the car that I didnt consider then but find odd now was an underdash cruise control unit just left of the steering wheel,(maybe right?),that stands out in my mind as it was a real knee knocker. Had to have been installed as an afterthought at the factory or by the delivering dealer? Kurt, any thoughts on that? I hadnt thought about it in years until I was pulling a mental photo here for the radio plate. Thanks, Motown

I don't think cruise control was available on the 69--just speed minder. My dad always installed his own cruise control.(from Sears, I think) He had one that taped to the turn signal, and one that mounted under the dash. Maybe the exec shopped at Sears, too.
