I know exterior color changes for documented numbers matching cars are generally frowned upon by the concours crowd. How about interior color changes? I have a frame-off Cranberry Red 1970 Chevelle SS454 (LS5) with a saddle interior. I am really considering an interior color change to black which I prefer. What are your thoughts?

Everybody has black. I'd rather have saddle.

My uncle has a red with saddle 70 Cutlass W-31. Like the others, I think the combo is kind of cool, too.

i would agree keep it original as saddle is accepted and matches. try this. i had a gold LS6 with black stripes, black vinyl top and green interior, tinted glass. the car looked gorgeous in an are not well lit, pull it outside and puke. i changed the interior color to black and it made the car. if you change the interior go all the way and keep the original, the next owner will then have the option. i put the original green interior in the trunk and let the next owner decide. with the black interior i never got an objection to color because it looked obviously better. the car now resides in chicago. Is It Bucket or Bench?
Either way,Leave it with a Saddle interior. If you have the deluxe Saddle colored seat belts, you are even better.Saddle Floor mats ar also hard to locate. A few years ago, there was a Poll on what the best 1970 Chevelle Color combo was. Cranberry Red with a Saddle interior was voted the most desired combo in ths particular poll. Kevins/Randy Millers Gold LS6 with a Green interior is even more appealing to me. It's an Unusual combo you don't see and doesn't look that bad really.... Everybody has a 1970 Red/Black. Just my .02 |

The saddle interior is the original color. It's a bench with 4-speed. The car's on the cover of Robert Genat's book (Chevrolet SS) and I've owned it for 5 years. It's also a Silver Spinner award winner and that may contribute as to why I am heisitant to change it.

do you remember where you saw the poll results? I know that this color combination was featured in their factory demo car and it's also the color in Motor Trend's 1970 test photo shoot.
