Default M21 Trans and Distributor

I have a late build 69 Z - 4th week oct 69. Window sticker and protecto plate call for an M21 Trans. The trans has the correct vin and production date stamped into it. The main case casting has a 661 casting. According to a number of experts, this is not correct. It should be a 660 casting. Does anyone have info that would indicate that this may be correct???.........or i have a 661 trans restamped with my vin and production number?

Also, the distributor is a 1112003 vs the 1111480 as most books call for.

Has anyone else uncovered this on late build cars?

Thanks for any advise....Ed

I'd be interested in some of the #'s from your car. You can email me at [email protected].
Trans suffix is on the POP?
Late Z's appear to use the 2003 dist. But it's not consistent and production records show 0 built.

Ed,

I have done some research on this in the past for other customers. I have 660 case with build date as late as Oct. 29 1970. And 661 case as early as Sept. 11 1970. So if it looks like a virgin stamping it could be correct. Hope this helps.

P.S. Is this the case Darrell at Four Speeds by Darrell asked me to look up for his customer?

Crash,
For the years mentioned in your posting, do you mean 1969 instead of 70??

Sam, Thanks for catching my typo. It should read 1969 for an early 1970 build car or a very late 1969 Camaro or Corvette build car. Last night I was looking for a case for a Dec. 1969 build 1970 LS-6 Chevelle and found a POP18B 661 case= Sept 18 1969 M-21 for a 1970 car V.I.N. #10W158975 =1970 Nova. Sorry for the typo, Hope this help--Crash

I also have a 1112003 dist dated 9 G 11. Does the 2003 fit other applications ?

Charlie, mine is the same date code 9G11 with all the correct 201 advance and 532 CCW

Not sure if they were used on other vehicles......what is the build date of your car?

Mine isn't on a car. When i read your post I thought the # sounded familiar so I went digging through my stuff and there it was. It also has the 532 cam but I didn't look at the advance unit.

Crash, thanks for the info........

How would one go about determining that what i have is correct for the car....the pop has the trans number on it and the trans has the vin number on it.....are there any other tell tell signs that i can defend the originality?
