Default Need help/advise locating holes for SS emblems.1967 Camaro

I really need some help with this from others who have done this. I have the AIM, and the dims on page 309, but they all reference to 2 plains that are not defined or explained. There is a spec for the first hole from the leading edge of the fender, which will locate them front to rear, but I have NO idea where to measure the height from. I made a template of the hole spacing and have fitted the SS emblems to that and it is all good.....I just need to know where to put the template to drill the holes in my NOS fenders. I will be adding the nose stripe at some point and would like all this to line up correctly.
I'm wondering if the alignment plains are in a Chassis manual and they don't reference that for this manual ? I don't recall if I have the chassis manual or not.
Thanks in advance for rescuing me with this..

I cut my original fenders into pieces so that they could be laid on top of new fenders and the holes could be transferred. I have loaned them out to several other people so that they could get theirs drilled correctly. Mine are '69, so that's not going to help you much. If you have your original fenders and they are no good then cut them up so that you can use them for templates.

I cut up the left one, as that fender is pretty much trash and it is so bent, I can't get it to lay flat enough on the new one to feel confidant that it's in the correct orientation.

Karl made up a template for the right side from paper and masking tape that fit really well, but think it was slightly off the horizontal plain and the letters look off to me. Could just be an illusion, but I'm very hesitant to drill the left side until the fender is on the car and I can see if they are level. I KNOW, never drill after paint, but I don't need crooked letters to try to straighten out after either. I can dab some paint in the holes for protection.

Years ago I purchased full size templates for emblem location on a 68 Camaro. They seemed to work pretty well. I just looked quick and they still seem to be readily available from various vendors. Actually I still have the templates for a 1968 Camaro. If anyone can use them let me know and they are yours.

Thanks Bill, I found a lot of information on this subject on Team Camaro and the consensus was the templates were helpful, but not completely accurate. There are several pictures of emblems on survivor cars and helpful commentary and measurements from others, including Charley. All this dates back 10-15 years and only came up with a search on the forums, not a general web search.

I now know where the emblems should be located relevant to the body line, which has been my biggest concern.
And the planes of placement were explained as well, with the -45 coming forward from the rear of the fender and the 20 being a somewhat arbitrary measurement down from the flange where the fender bolts to the core support. But using the information of distance from the body line and being parallel, I can go back to this fairly confident I will get them very close without using the planes as a guide. The survivor cars weren't all the same and not even side to side, so there is wiggle room and still have them look correct.

I already had the holes drilled for the right fender and after using the chalk line to determine the body line, I put tape on the fender to look at it the emblems again. They were not parallel and a little too high, so I "tweaked " the holes as much as I could to get them as close as possible without welding 6 holes shut and trying to get hardened metal to follow the original compound curves after grinding and sandpaper finishing. They aren't real bad but not where I would like them. Using the same method to find the body line on the left fender, I used my template, cut down to lay on the tape and even with the nose and drilled the holes. Again, not perfect and needing some tweaking, but they are pretty darn good. I did leave that side a tad high too, so the 2 sides didn't appear too unequal.

I doubt that anyone will ever notice that they aren't perfect. It looks good to me. The stripes on my car drive me crazy and I would love to repaint it, but not for the money that a paint job costs today.

I can almost guarantee they were not perfect in 1967.
