Need a little help. This is the posi in a 1970 GTO I'm used to the limited slip type of posi with clutch plates and springs. Is this a locker? Is it original? How the hell do the axles come out. No bolt to take out to remove the pin so the C clips can be taken out. Only one window in the complete center section.

stock original conical posi..exactly what should be in GTO.. BOLT IN AXLES TOO..no pin...
they use cones with teeth like grooves/steps and centrifugal force make them lock..when they wear out, they are done.. does it have a big N on the housing up front above the pinion on the snout of the housing?

Thanks Mark I was wondering if it had bolt in axles I didn't get around to pulling the wheels off yet. I pulled the cover to let it drain over night. I think it seen some abuse 3 bolts broke off of the ring gear. 3:55 gears

That's a Borg Warner differential. It's the same design that is still being used in the Holden cars, 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds with the Borg Warner 9 bolt rear end, the '04 to '6 GTO and others. Yours is the 4 pinion design, which is pretty strong. It can be reconditioned at least once. I've done a few. It requires some machine work on a lathe and some hardened shims.
