Default BB Heater Core & Box

Went to install the heater core on Ben's Nova this past Saturday, and the repro core appears to be too large - the retaining brackets at the ends won't even come close to lining up! I bought it from Ground Up, part # ACHKIT3. Anyone else run into this? Can you install the larger core without the brackets & without issue?

Also the 'seal kit' appears useless, I'm inclined to install the unit without any of 'em and just use the strip caulk like factory....

I got my 69 Camaro small block heater core from NAPA, it was an exact fit, ,don't know how their big block core is but worth a look.

So, the repro unit is apparently quite correct for a '67 BB car that has a larger heater box and thus a core that is 2.5" wide. However, in '68 the box changed, and so did the core which is just 2.0" wide. So, certain repro companies only sell the 2.5" unit which might work in the '68-'69 heater boxes, but you can't use the retaining clips.

I found one site, Heartbeat City, that has notes regarding the differences between the 2 different sizes and the related applications. So, I'll be ordering one from them - more expensive than other sites, but I'll gladly pay it if it fits properly!

More to come....
