Sorry if i asked this group this question before, but i am in the process of redoing my 69/Z28/RS and I have had the M22 redone, the engine is a stock Jan 14, 1969 302 so no increase in horse power and torque above the 290hp/350-400hp or whatever it is rated at from the factory?
I am looking for a clutch set up the whole setup set to put back in and would like one that would be the best possible for this car particularly as it relates to be as close to original any suggestions would be appreciated? Just a FYI my goal is to bring the car back to the original specs as possible including how the clutch feels and performs as the one that came with the car? maybe i can still buy the original clutch and plate and other parts from GM? Jerry Macneisb indicated on his "My Garage" web site that there was a Hayes clutch setup that matched the original set up well or it worked well with the car. i asked but never got a model number, he is a busy guy. Does anyone have any other thoughts on what out there may be good? again looking for clutch plate, disc and throwout bearing, the whole shooting match, i also need an original flywheel for my car since the one i have is from a 65 chevelle or something and i would like to get one in the car that is date correct while it is apart, any idea if the motor is 1/14/69 what the date of the flywheel may be? within a month of the engine build date? any guidance would be much appreciated blake Cortez Silver, black strips and all numbers matching |

I understand the nut and bolt resto stuff. I have painstakingly made sure my car is all GM and as original as possible.
But.... I would not go looking for original GM stuff for a clutch. I used many, many Sachs clutches in our Bimmers over the years, with zero failure or clutch chatter. So, I put the SACHS K167510 in my car. No one can see or tell what clutch you have in there. It is available from RockAuto for $84.79. I have abused mine pretty well. Drove the car today, and it is still smooth on the uptake with no chatter, and no slip (even when I had the big tires out back).

Lynn and Mike 2 more very good choices. I used to think I had a to have a killer blow proof clutch to do anything above 6 grand but not so. I want an easy pedal cause I am weak and lazy!

</div></div> I agree with a lighter pedal! you dont need a killer clutch on a 302 a stiffer pressure plate is hard on linkages! I've had arms seperate from the bellcrank and forks break -nothing fun to replace or repair. Recently while going through some old parts I found the bellcrank that had triangle gussets welded in for reinforcement brought back memeories

I just recently replaced the clutch in my 68 Z28 & I used a McLeod cutch. It seems a IittIe hard to push in, not real hard but pretty stiff.

I'm running a 10.5" centerforce II in my Chevy II. No slip dead hooking at a 3500 rpm launch (12 second car), really light pedal, and super smooth engagement.
According to Centerforce, some cheap stock replacement pressure plates do not use nodular iron pressure rings (just cast iron). I would not want an $80 clutch behind a high revving 302 with a stock bellhousing. Likewise, forget about a stock flywheel and go for a RAM billet wheel. No one can see it once it is installed. |

I have had several LUK clutch kits with mostly good luck. However, the last setup I bought for my Gold 69 Z had bad pressure plate springs in the PP. I replaced with a Centerforce clutch kit. The kit has a great easy pedal, zero chatter, nice grip etc. I am sure all the above suggestions will work fine with your application. My bad luck with one LUK kit was a fluke IMO.
