Could someone please tell me what is correct as far as the application of the fender louvers/gills on '68-'72 Nova's?
I believe '68's did not use them at all? I believe only Super Sport Nova's in 1969 got them? I believe they were also used only on Super Sport Nova's from 70-72? Is this correct? Thanks

68s did not use them. Some 69s had them. 70s used them. Not used into 71-72. Not only the Super Sports but some other non SS models had them as well.

There were 2 exterior trim packages...
The ZJ2 Custom Exterior Package had the front louvers with chrome edges. The ZJ5 Exterior Décor Package had body colored front louvers. Both of these packages were available on any Nova model...the louvers with the chrome edge were also part of the SS option along with the rear panel, SS emblems and hood louvers. You can read more details at: http://novaresource.org/rpo_ZJ5.htm http://novaresource.org/rpo_ZJ2.htm wilma

Yes...too a point. The trim tag will have a letter code in the middle eg: "A" for black interior trim. That letter will be followed by the numeral 1, 2 or 3...or in the case of <span style="font-weight: bold">no</span> exterior trim the "A" will be alone.
Start with that and tell me what you have...the ZJ5 option was more common than the ZJ2...the ZJ5 would have the body side moldings and brite window trim. The other item to consider is a vinyl roof...if the paint code is followed by a letter like "B"..then you had a black vinyl roof which would normally receive the drip rail molding. Lastly, even though the car is in primer and the holes are filled in...there may be indications on the back side of the sheet metal...look in the trunk, inside the door and inside front fenders to see if any remnants of holes or attaching points are visible. You can also work backwards from the trim tag and install what you want...eg; if you have "A 2" you could easily install the brite window trim and lower rocker moldings and have a correct look...this is easier than creating the mounting pins and holes for the body side molding. Hope that helps.. wilma

I have a pic on my cell and even blown up its hard to make out
TR 745 59 SPNT - maybe 5 PNT? 09C D? 3? these are what I can see - I think car was a light metallic green with dark green interior IIRC there was a 1" molding that came with the car from front to rear. car was early built 09c a year to the week earlier than my Z car is at my daugters and will be brought home in couple weeks she was storing it for me, its going to be my retirement car I've been parts gathering for it. few indicators remain indicate that it was a 375hp 4 speed car- powertrain long gone always wanted to build a 489 or 496 but with a 4 speed 12 bolt I fear for the trannys life and may just keep it a 454 and do a day 2 build and drive it sorry didnt mean to hijack original thread

IIRC, the '59 S' paint code is Frost Green with a Green top, so the 'D' on the bottom row indicates that your painted interior items are also green. The '3' following the 'D' indicates that you have 3 of the 4 exterior moldings (no car received all 4), they are: drip rail, door frame, body side & rocker. So, with a v/t car you automatically receive the drip rail moldings, if the car had the body side moldings you'll see the pins on the doors and quarters, same for rocker moldings. If you have pins for both moldings, then door frame molding is out, if you have just one set of pins you can surmise the rest....
