Default My Dad's 1969 L78 Chevelle

I know this is a long shot but my Dad always talks about his Garnet Red L78 4 speed M22 car that had the 4:10 rear end that he sold in the early 1970's. I only know he purchased it off of the original owner who lived in Youngstown Ohio and my Dad at the time lived in Columbiana Ohio. He sold it around 1971-72 time frame and do not know where it has gone from their. I know he told me it had black bucket seats and a factory tach package. If anyone knows how to look back on previous owner history and can give me any advice I would appreciate it. I know also that the car was a solid color only and he was sure it had not striping on it. I figure this will eliminate some of the cars out their having the package and color combination. I wish I had the vin number to the car. I can be reached at 330-770-2517.

Dennis, hopefully you are tracking it down so you can purchase it and give it back to him. One thought on the VIN, if your parents were anal about keeping records like mine were try looking through their files and see if you can find an old registration or insurance receipt for the car. The VIN will be on there. That will certainly help find the car and verify it is the same one. Just a thought.

Dennis,

I hope you find her - I would bet someone along the line most likely added the side stripe - I would not have.
I will keep my eye open for you.

Dan

Yes the plan would be to get it back to him. I do not believe he has anything on the car for the vin. I know that will make it a little tougher but I believe if it is still out their I have a chance. If I have to trade or sell one of my 1969 Camaro's to make it happen I will.

Awesome. Make sure you video the event if it happens. I too will keep my eyes open. Also, if you have a Facebook account post it here. Many cars have been located thanks to that site already. Also check on Facebook under the names of any area drag strips in Ohio as I recently found information on a long lost Yenko by doing so, so you just never know.

Rick's right on w/ his thoughts as usual also best try back-tracking from a few other angles too.
And when searching it's best keep what you know of the VIN in mind as the # alone may be on a loose paper or file folder edge etc so knowing it's # 136379B......or whatever, hopefully it stands out.
It wasn't a 2-Dr. Post car by chance was it?
And even though your pop was owner #2, was there an emblem or info in the car indicating dealer it came from new?
And whether you know anything of what dealer it came from or not also considering dealer trades etc, it may be worth trying Sweeney Chev in Youngstown on for info plus any other old dealers still operating in the area too?
Lastly and slim chance perhaps but if the car lives and current owner does an NCRS report then shows up here or elsewhere mentioning the dealer name, someone may recognize it?

Good luck!

Marv Minneman no longer in business (lots of HiPos including it was a YENKO distributor), Sweeney (I know of the Buick dealer still in business so the Chev side may still be in operation), Jack Lemke Chev (1620 Market St - out of business now). Another '69 L78 'velle came out of Lemke (Lem. Blue and is owned by Gary Place now). Youngstown was bustling back then supporting the steel industry and there were lots of well paid steel workers putting down their $ on hipo cars.

Good luck

Just confirmed Sweeney Chev is open - give them a call and talk to some of the old-timers to see if they remember yr Dad's car.

I have contacted the dealership and they are going to look into it for me. As far as the question of being a 2 door post car I am not sure on that one. I will have to ask my Dad about that.

Have you tried contacting the insurance company with whom your father had insurance on the car with back then?
