I purchased some NOS wheel well mouldings and the guy I bought them from taped the old wrappers to the parts with clear packaging tape. Any suggestions on a safe way to remove the clear tape residue from the parts? I am thinking WD-40 but don't want to make a costly error by using something that will damage the finish on the parts. Thanks for the help.

WD-40 won't harm the parts, but might not be strong enough.
Try lighter fluid or Goo Gone/Goof Off. |

3M adhesive remover is the best.

The product you want to use is Bestine #202 and can be purchased at most art supply stores. Made by Union Rubber Inc. This will not react to paint or other surfaces.
