Racing has evolved a bit from this
Yesterday I worked Medevac coverage for the Camping World Truck Race, fortunately didn't have to fly anyone. Coincidentally someone sent me this video, back in this era I would have been very busy.
Seatbelts are a good thing

Amazing more of those drivers did not die! I cannot believe what some of them endured then just got up and ran off the track!
