My uncle has had this block since the late 1980's, and has now decided to sell it as the car project basically fell through. Here is the history of the block that my uncle has told me. He purchased this block from someone in Oklahoma in the late 1980's, and that owner had said this block had spent its life in a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Road race car. He told me it was a factory car that came with this engine in it, can I verify that...no. Do I know for certain, no.
As the picture of the bore shows, the sleeve bore ID is 4.420" in diameter. As any collector will know, a standard ZL-1 block came with a 4.25 bore sleeve. The larger bore engines I "think" were the CAN AM blocks. I believe this block is an actual CAN AM block due to the bore size and according to some of the research I've done. The block has had some welding done in the past, and will still require some welding and sleeves installed to be useful again. Items of note - -Block has the Snowflake on the front of the block face -Has GM part number 3946052 -Has number 98683-B on the passenger side head deck surface on the front of the block -Bore size is 4.420" Any idea of what this block actually is? And what it might be worth? We currently have the block on EBAY trying to sell it and a set of the original 074 aluminum heads from the ZL1. I just would like to know this could possibly be worth. Thoughts anyone? http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...nta95/01-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...nta95/02-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...nta95/03-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...nta95/04-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...nta95/05-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...nta95/06-2.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...nta95/07-2.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...nta95/08-1.jpg http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...mknta95/09.jpg |

If you cleaned out the rust from the bore, would that make up the .005" differance in size?

These bores are .170" larger than the standard ZL1 sleeves. For example, the bore size of 4.42 is very close to the size of a 502 engine.
The rust in the bore won't account for that. |

Can-Am blocks had 4.440 bore except for -72 Block that have 4.500.
