Default Silverado ABS pump running

my 2004 Silverado K1500 ABS pump was still running after the vehicle was shut off and key removed last night. After quickly reading through the 5000 page 20 lb owners manual I removed the square yellow 60 amp fuse from under the hood. The brakes appear to working ok, with the exception of the Ebrake. The ABS light and Ebrake light are now on all the time (unless I engage the Ebrake, then the light goes out).

I know there is some connection between the ABS and 4WD (they both don't work at the same time?)

I have been launching and retrieving frequently and my son has been making deliveries on the beach requiring the 4WD many times in the last few weeks.

I also had to slam on the brakes in gravel the other day to avoid getting rammed by a touron who wanted both sides of the road.

Found some info online, mostly stale on idiot forums.

asking here cause you guys are smart, patient and always right.

had the same problem with my '99 K1500 silverado.
the relay in the pump circuit board is stuck. i believe the board was about 6 bills at the time. i unplugged the main harness at the pump and lived with the ABS lamp and w/out ABS.
with the fuse back in and the harness unplugged at the pump, you'll only have the amber ABS lamp on.

I had a friend with the same scenario on a '06 1500 were he applied the brakes hard to avoid a collision, in the gravel. ABS light went on.
He found "debris" as he described it on the right pick-up sensor removed it and had the code cleared then no ABS light.
Hope it's as simple as his was.

after searching all over I found this old post that had no replies.

"silverado EBCM
everyone asks what is wrong with ABS module in the 1999-2004 Silverado, well...no one wants to share the info, some BS i suspect so here's the skinny, the sytem relay is only rated to 60-80 amp, so when ABS activates with 90-100 amp the relay contacts weld together and the pump runs continuously, so to fix it you need a new relay with conatacts rated at 108 amps..but I cannopt find the new part number to replace it..so there it is folks...now does anyone care to cough up the part number and supplier??"

sounds like a conspiracy to me...however, the event of slamming the brakes and having the ABS activated for what seemed like forever (4-5 seconds)could that have possibly done what is implied above; weld the relay contacts together?

is the EBCM code name for the ABS module ?

Yep, same here, but in our little piece of paradise the labor rate is slightly less. I think mine was around $450. (a couple of years ago.)

Great, I'll pack my bags and Road Trip to your neck of the woods Dennis. I am sure I can change it out myself, I just don't want to buy a part (even at wholesale) if it's not the correct one. If I wanted that I would have left it with the dealer for him to R & R my wallet several times.
