I've got some photos of cars I had dealings with in the early 70's, and they're interesting in that they show what gearheads of the time were doing. Wheel choices, stances, modifications and that kind of thing. Some later photos too.
Anyway, on with the show. This first car was owned and built by the guy who ran the Shell station at Vancouver International Airport. It was the first blown street car that I had any dealings with, and it sounded wild. ![]() I think these photos were Sept. 73. ![]() ![]() ![]() I blew the photo up to try to read the gas price, but couldn't make it out. Check out the oil can display. How long has it been since we bought oil in cans? Enjoy, John |

Whatever the price of gas was in September, it would soon double in early '74, due to the first OPEC lead "oil crises". I'll bet it didn't see much action after that.
Really cool Camaro! ![]()

Awesome photos- thanks for sharing
![]() Looks like a 75 Malibu in the background of the first pic, so I'd guess that as the date.

Well, I hooked up the scanner to my new laptop, and went round in circles for awhile. I figured out it works a different way on this computer.
![]() Anyway, here's the next one. This car was owned by the guy a few houses down from me. He had a string of Hipo Pontiacs ending up with this one. This photo is from 1971. He went through a few Pontiac motors with this car and finally ended up putting a 435 Hp 427 in it. He bought the engine from Lincoln Auto Wreckers just north of Seattle and put a big Holley carb and Edelbrock manifold on it and headers. This car had power everything on it and ran a 13:00 on it's first pass. It was a 4spd car. The custom paint was by 'Boots Pinstriping' in Vancouver BC, and was pretty wild for the time. I'd have to say that this guy had a huge influence on me getting into cars. There were always nice cars hanging around his house, and guys going through the gears as they left. Back then the high riding look was in vogue. ![]() ![]() |

I keep encouraging people to dig out their old photos, even if they only have a couple, so I can scan them.
