I used to own a 68 Camaro with a 12 bolt in it.It had a posi unit that looked like a coffe can and you couldnt see the internals.I believe it had bolt in axles. It also had GM 5.13 gears. Is this a "service package" rear?I would think if so that it would be worth something to somebody restoring a vintage race car back to as raced condition. The car it was in was a 68 Camaro that was a race car since day one with 425 original miles, and the guy I sold it to backhalfed it with a Dana 60.I may still be able to get the rear out of it.Thanks.

Sounds like it looked similar to a D60 posi. Could it have been confused with one?
Here are two different D60 posi units. ![]() |

It was factory GM.I owned the car almost 20 years ago,so it isnt anything new or trick, and to be honest the car sat for 10 years or more without moving before I got it.The slicks were litterally stuck to the floor and the seat belts were 10 years out dated. The car was a 4 speed car but the trans tunnel was hacked, and it had a powerglide and air actuated brake in it.Looked like a very old super stocker, had a 327 in it but had a scorpion intake and Holley carb, and a glass hood with s scoop that didnt match the rest of the paint. It was a real cool Day 2 car, looked to be last worked on in the late 70's.White with black gut, diamond pleated vinyl covering the rear interior area.

Sounds like lots of aftermarket parts. Don't take this the wrong way, but how do you know it was a factory GM posi? If you've got a PN, we can probably lookit up and tell you what it is.
The bolt-in axles are also suspicious of aftermarket too. There were some non Chevy GM rears with bolt in axles but I'm not aware of any "service package" rears that used them. |

I don't know of any aftermrket posi units from the 70's.I was told that it was a fctory locker unit and was used in over the counter replacment rears. It had heat treated GM 5.13 gears in it,and I never had the rear brake drums off,but I cant see how the axles didnt bolt in since there would be no way to access a C clip. The axles were totally flat on he ends with no identifing markers.I am thinking this would be the same rear that guys like Jenkins used under his 68 Camaro.I was just wodering how much people knew about these rears and what they are worth.
