Default 67 Camaro rearend with Chevelle centersection

I talked to a guy today about 12-bolt rearends. He said that the very first Camaro 12-bolt rearends were made using Chevelle centersections because of some delay in production. Is this just made up or is there some truth in it ? Never heard it before.
Something like the first 1964 Chevy II 327 engine-blocks useing the 283 casting (since that 283 was a thickwall-block), so I guess anything would be possible.

I know 67 400 4 speed Firebirds came with 10 bolts with the upper link type mounts cast into the center but not used. They used leaf springs and two I beam traction link bars.

Ok, no Chevelle centersections used on camaros then. Thanks Kurt.

Freddy, is that pic taken on a car that you own ? Does it seem to be factory installed ? Correct dates, no extra welding on the spring perches etc ?

I've seen them on a non-400 67 as well. Definitely OEM.

I have seen many 8.2 Firebird rear ends with dual traction bar mounts and coil spring center section. Even on rear ends with 2 series gears and an open.

Interesting. I never knew that. Swap one into a Camaro and a whole new rumor starts!
