Default More Toy Stuff

This has been a fun project that's taken a bunch of time over the past three or four months. Many of you know that I was involved in a drag strip back in the 60s & 70s, and that the club that built and operated the strip has regrouped for an Annual Reunion. This year is the Seventh Event and 2009 also marks the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the original club. We have offered a one-of-one diecast car the past four years as an auction item to generate some funds which are donated back to the local communities, holding back just enough for operating expenses for the next year. This year we took a little different approach to the diecast. A couple of us brought up the idea of a Pedal Car. Long story shortened; the idea took a bunch of turns from an old sad-face, to a '32 Ford to the '55 Chevy, to TWO vehicles (thoughts of a wrecker, tow truck with trailer, ramp truck, .......... it got pretty involved!). We finally decided on TWO '55 Chevys: one as a race car and the other as the tow vehicle. The tow vehicle will be a Red & White version, virtually unaltered. It will have a trailer hitch and a 50th Anniversary Club logo on the rear deck lid. The pictures below are of the Race Car. The upholstery is out for these pictures but I hope to pick it up this week. A friend of ours is stitching the club logo onto the material and I should have that reinstalled by the weekend.
The pair will be offered as a Raffle item this year. The winner will get BOTH cars, The current thought of most members is to sell tickets the day of the event ONLY. Personally, I feel this is a mistake but it's been a Club decision (which I hope will soon be overturned!) A couple of us feel we've left a ton of money on the table which could be put to good use, especially in todays economic disaster. Just a personal opinion.

Anyway I thought I'd throw some pictures out for some of you to see. I know there's a few more twisted individuals here that get a kick out of things like this.

Hope you enjoy seeing what some of us do with our 'spare time'.

This year's event will take place Saturday, September 12th (a week after SCR12) and I'll post more information and photos of the pair "hooked up" as the time draws near.

Couldn't agree more as well as the Fred Gibb show. I think right now they should try to make all the money they can. If it is going back to the community in one way or another they will only benefit more and it will bring more publicity to the Reunion and the strip.

Actually it's both, ........... and neither.

It was an air pressure gauge I had in my garage; a spare for the regulator on my airbrush. I was looking for something else one evening and ran across it, then the rusty old gears started creaking.

Here's a comparison. An original and the first one I made.

Then some follow-up work.

I'm generally free between 2 AM and 5 AM.

I wasn't alone on this project. Much of the credit goes to Jeff Fansler (AMUSEME here on the sYc) and to another Dragway club member, Dan Ford
Again, it's the friends that make things like this FUN.
