72 z28... i have verified that all the #'s on my car are matching, and all the dates are correct... EXCEPT... the tranny is a m-22, everything on the tranny is correct including: maincase, extension and side-cover castings all correct! date is correct! but, the vin# stamping reads: 12N192117 but the actual vin# is: 12N162117... is it possible that when stamping the vin at the time of assembly (in 1972) they accidentaly had the 6 turned upside down??? ive been told that it is very possible... just wanting to verify this information... or should the question be, is this likely??? thanks....

Hey, wouldn't you think that the VIN on the block would be the same mistake?

Maybe the 6 or all the numbers fell out between the block and tranny and the worker put the 6 back in up side down.

Hey, wouldn't you think that the VIN on the block would be the same mistake? ![]() [/ QUOTE ] I believe the 2 stampings should be identical.
