Hi guys!!!
Last year, the response that I got from you guys pushed the L60 into production. I am looking to you again to help with another survey. Kelsey is looking at starting to reproduce some of the RWL radials and is looking into what should be the first one out there. I want your opinion on what should be looked at first. Before everyone starts to jump on me, I understand that most feel that performance took a deep dive after 1972. But there are some cars that were collected and have a following. I just wanted to get some input as you are the most widely versed group of car guys that I know. Thanks in advance for your help. ![]()

Rusty,
I would love to see a RADIAL look-a-like version of the 1970 Goodyear F70-14 RWL Polyglas tire for Chevelles so we could have the best of both worlds (the look of the Polyglas with the ride and durability of the modern radial). I see requests for this type of tire all the time on various boards. I believe this is already done for some older vehicles, but not yet for Muscle cars. Now, that would be cool.

Are you talking about reproducing a radial tire like the Goodyear Steelgard, or taking a tire that was originally a bias ply like the Polyglas and making it a radial as the 2nd poster is assuming?

He's talking about radials like the Steelguard or other radials used on 70's cars, not about making a radial that says polyglas on it.

Looking at like the Polysteels for Corvettes in 1978, Eagle GT's for Monte SS's, GN's and 442- H/O's of the 80's. You know, that type of thing!! ![]()

That's kinda what I thought.
I would think there would be a market for the Steelgard, Firestone 500, Polysteel, and especially the Eagle GT, in the size correct for the 80-82 Corvette (I think it was 255/60/15) and the 215/65/15 for the Monte SS, GN, and 442. |

I don't think they would be considering doing the Firestone 5oo since that was a recalled tire with a whole lot of legal issues (and deaths) attached to its name.
Not a good marketing move. Reminds me of that early 80's diet pill called AIDS. When the disease AIDS hit the mainstream media, that company went belly-up. Or like renaming the new Taurus, the Pinto. Not a "better idea" from Ford. ![]() |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm actually not assuming anything but rather looking to give some input on what type of tires guys have actually been asking about so they would be worthwhile to manufacture and subsequently purchased. Another tire that doesn't qualify or directly answer your question but many would like to see are the Goodyear Eagle ST's that were also very popular versus BFG's. I know that both of my suggestions don't directly answer your post, but many are asking, "Why aren't they making these?" If he is considering making reproduction tires for performance cars from the mid 70's to mid 80's, that market is still very small, IMO.

How big a market is necessary to justify moving ahead?
