I have read and learned quite a bit from the other post on this subject. I have two questions:I cant get the image to load "Sorry" but here is the same picture on ebay Item 110323366665
1. The picture with Jim Rathmann driving shows the 69 Indy Pace car making a lap at the 69 Indy 500 race. The license plate on the front of this car has a bowtie and i can't make out the slogan. Did they use a different plate for the race? From what I have read there was no bowtie just Chevrolet and the slogan was Putting you first...Keeps us first! 2. I am restoring a 69 Pace car and was (am) looking for the correct plate to use. |

On my promotional model boxes it reads: "Putting You First...Keeps Us First on the 1969 boxes. On the 1970-71 boxes it says: "Putting You First In a Big Way." On my 1972-73 camaro boxes it says: "Building a Better Way To See The U.S.A." I have a 1970 camaro box that also reads "The Sporty Ones" by Chevrolet. These boxes are originals from Chevrolet for their Promo models in those years. I would say the slogan for their USA-1 plates would/should be the same as their Promo boxes.

That license plate in the eBay picture says,See America's First!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...focusZbsQQfviZ1 Hard to tell if it's one of the thinner 1965-66-67 released,or the much heavier 1970 released steel plate.Probably the earlier thinner, seeing as what time of year that was. It's not really incorrect,as both designs were out there at that time. They might have just picked up whatever plate was on a shelf and took off.Not realizing we would be magnifying these details decades later. The 69 issued "Putting You First,Keeps Us First" was probably sitting on that very same shelf too. Great pic! ![]() |
