Default 62 Impala tach or something else?

I recently posted this tach on Ebay:
Vintage Chevrolet Tach

I googled the part number and it came back as 62 Chevrolet. This made since since 1962 is printed right after the part number on the back of the tach. I know 61-62 Impalas came with a Sun tach from the factory. Could this tach have come in later 62's? I got this cup in a black painted Sun "pinch" cup. I was told it came out of a 62 Impala that the seller bought new and wrecked. Here is the link to the auction where I bought it:

62 S/S tach

I don't want to misrepresent this part. A Ebayer already wrote to me saying it was incorrct for a 62. What info is correct?

Thanks,

Jason

many people (coff, self proclamed experts, coff) will write and try to belittle you into dumping what you have listed

since you bought this to flip, I am not sure why you are having doubts about your presentation

If you really want to be up front in your presentation, you could include the listing where you bought it from and the info from the location that shows the part number

even better yet would be to include a listing from the GM parts book

it is very easy to revise your listing and trust me, no one will show their hand on bidding until the last 30 seconds anyway ...

Jim,

Thanks for the reply. I am not having doubts about the presentation. I would just like to be more certain when replying to other Ebayers who need clearification about the application. I did buy it to resell as it was "mislisted" and I wanted the cup. I am not worried about guys knowing that I bought it to resell since it is worth what it si worth, not necessarily what I paid. It is more curiousity than anything. I'm hoping Verne will chime in. He seems to hae picked up a thing or two in his time.

Thanks again,

Jason

Jason,
That is a transistorized tach that was offered late in the '62 production year (no sender). The part still doesn't show up in a June '62 revised parts book, and it's not carried over to the '63 book. It had a very short lifespan. The redline indicates it's for a 327. I know the part is legit ('62) although I've never documented an original car that had one installed at the assembly plant.
Hope this helps.
Verne

Verne,

I had a felling you would have the answer . So it was most likely an accessory made for the 62 Fullsize? Any idea how they were mounted?

Thanks,

Jason

They mounted the same way as the typical '62 tach. Short cup with chrome bracket screwed to the steering column. The latest revision of the assembly manual shows this type of tach, so it's not an "accessory only". It's just very late production. (after June).

Thanks Verne. Looks like this worked out well, I have the cup and bracket on my other auctions.

Wow looks like I was given wrong info at some point! The one I had was stamped 6cyl on the back and had the same redline.
