Is this air cleaner a correct original for a 69 Camaro?

It is correct for a Z/28 or BB built prior to about July 1969. Flat bottom at some point.

I was always under the impression that early 69's were flat bottom based, and that the switch over to the indented groove base was sometime around August of 69 during the initial 70 build. This base I don't think is correct for any 69 or 70 model as the breather elbow is the 2nd design style part # 6485891 vs the 69-70 part # 6485235 which uses a different elbow.

Unfortunately not really. 71-72 Chevelles used a thermac style air cleaner. This one was listed in the 71 parts books for the 454-425 shp application. Unfortunately no known cars with docs exist. Plenty of parts, just no actual cars.

Duh; I am asleep at the wheel today.
I had it backwards, the base in the pic is the later version; early ZL2 cars had the flat bottom with the 90º vent tube. At some point in production [July 1969?] this version was used. All the service replacement ducted hood bases I have seen are as shown in the picture. |

Mike,
Rick's pictures are of the bottom of the air cleaner base. The flame or spark arrestor mounts to the top of the tube in the picture. Chris |

So, then this is a correct air filter housing for a late built (July `69-on) Camaro with cowl induction?
