Tom,
I believe the BB Novas had a special 5-blade non-clutch fan. It is a funky-looking unit, and I haven't seen it on any other cars besides Novas.

Tom, Allen is correct if it is for a 69 or 70 BB Nova, I THINK a clutched fan came on the 68 BB Nova cars. Chevy found out quickly that it wasn't cooling the high heat BB motor and switched to a no clutch 5 bladed piece for 69 and 70. The fan is unique to the Nova, it has 2 blades together and 3 spread apart and is 17" diameter. They are very rare, most were chucked early because they made a lot of noise. A dented up one sold on EBay immediately for $510.00 just recently. Call Wayne Bushey at NNN, he may have an extra, but get your wallet open. The only marks I have seen on the fans are either a "W" ot "TW" on the rear of a blade bracket, there are 2 different bolt pattern as well, the service replacement has 2 sets of bolt/mounting holes and an original assembly line fan has only one set of mounting holes, blades are the same on all. Good luck

Quick question though: didn't they use the clutched fans on the other BBC models? I know on the Camaro they used the clutched 7-blade, so wouldn't they have the same cooling issues, since it's virtually the same setup? It looks like there isn't room for that setup on our Nova, so it's gonna requires something non-clutched...what is eating up the room? Is it the radiator support? ![]() |

Thanks guys. Have been doing some more checking, including an original Nova reference manual, and spoke with our pals at the Supercar Workshop. It appears early '69 BB Novas came with a 4 blade, and at some point in the year GM switched to a 5 blade. My Yenko is a Jan. car, which from what we can piece together, would have a 4 blade fan. And they mentioned the same thing about the 5 blade unit, rare and makes noise. I knew the reference manual called for a 4 blade unit, no clutch, but I thought that would not be right, since parked right behind the Nova is our L-72 Camaro which has a 7 blade fan with a clutch.
Live and learn.

I have a 4-blade unit laying around. I'll snap a picture and we can see if it's the same as what your manual says you need. I hadn't heard about early production 69's having something other than that 5-blade piece.

Tom, speak to Wayne at NNN, he has seen so many of these cars (BB Nova's) he can probably give you the most definitive answer on the subject. Good Luck
