Hello, I'm hoping to finish up the restoration on my 70 LS5 Chevelle this summer and was looking for the upper and lower radiator hoses. I was thinking someone on the site was making very accurate reprodusctions. Maybe "Pacecar" or something like that? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, I've read the the reproduction radiator caps that look authentic actually test out at 22-25 lbs as opposed to the correct 15-16 lbs. Can anyone verify this? Thanks, Troy

Don't know if he's corrected them but the hose markings Pace Car Jeff was using is unlike any original GM 70 Chevelle BB radiator hose I've ever seen. Do you need a 3942453 SV upper or a 3917227 KY upper? All BB Chevelles use a 3959188 SZ lower. When I asked Jeff where he got his sample from he produced an example of a totally different application than these 3 numbers I've listed as his reference. I'm not intending this to sound like a vendor bashing but if you advertise exact reproduction anything, I feel you better do your homework before making that claim. There are more accurate stamped hoses available for 1970 BB Chevelle applications, feel free to pm me for more info.

Here's a few pics of original BB 70 hoses for reference. I've noted variations of the same font just different placement where some have the GM logo on top of the part # and some have it below, but the size and font are always the same. I've seen way more original 453 uppers than 227 numbered hoses but the 227 originals I have seen look like the one pictured.

Thanks for all the reply's and PM's on the subject. Mockingbird, I'm ashamed to say that I don't have many pictures of the restoration. It's taken so long that the pictures from when I bought it 1990 are on paper and not digital. I hope to kick some butt when the weather breaks this spring. I just finished up the engine for the second time. It had been built and setting in the chassis for 12 years without being started and I didn't want to take a chance. What started out as a restoration 1990 style has morphed into a casting #, date code correct redo. The car has always had the original drive train, but it's all the little things that I didn't worry about when the project began that I've accumulated over the past few years and am now ready to forge ahead.

I use Chris's hoses on all my LS6 restorations and they are dead on. Here is a shot of one installed on Mark P's car complete with date code and stripe.

Fired the engine up a couple months ago and just got the rest of the sheet metal back from the painter. Looking forward to getting it finished up by spring. 20 years in the making....

I have NEVER seen a reproduction RC 15 that looked right, JMO. OK to use them but you better test them. Mike |
