IF wheels came mostly on 69 and 70 Pontiac Grand Prixs, but there are documented 69 Camaros that had them too. That was mostly a Van Nuys deal on the Camaros so that wouldn't apply to a Nova. It may have been that Norwood was low on XT's one day and could have substituted IF's if they had them, since they are virtually identical.

I always thought that IF and XT wheels were exactly alike till I had a pair of both styles of bare wheels on the tail gate of my truck. The IF wheels had about a 0.25 deeper offset than the XT wheels.

Hello ALLZS,

I have yet to find an original 68-70 Nova with IFs from the factory. Does not mean they did not. I would be interested in the VIN/Trim tag info and wheel codes if you have them for the database.

What I commonly see are cars that had the wheels switched at the dealer to make the sale. I.e. car came with ralleys and the customer would only by the car if they had plane or visa versa.

Or he did not want stripes on the tires and it was easier to swap wheels than tires on the wheel.

Greg

Greg I work at a dealer and what you are saying about wheel swapping happens all the time. Just yesterday we had a truck that had aftermarket wheels on it but the customer did not want them. The original wheels were traded in to the tire store that sold us the custom wheels so we just swapped wheels on from another truck. Think how many dealers were selling Pontiacs, Chevrolets and some other GM products under the same roof back in the day.
