Default 72 H/O Olds

As was said earlier, seems to be the week for Oldsmobiles. I thought I would post some pictures I took of Don Stowers' latest puchase when he stopped by the shop. To say it is a sweet unrestored car would be an understatement but I will let him tell the story. Enjoy the photos for now.

Thanks Rick for posting the pictures, maybe someday I'll figure out how to do it.

The car is 1972 Hurst/Olds unrestored, untouched 49K mile car. The car was bought new in Seattle and spent it's entire life there. Not one sign of rust anywhere on the car. It needs a good cleaning inside, outside and underneath and a visit to a paintless dent repair shop. There are chalk marks, inspection stamps and paint dabs all over the car.

Equipped with Auto, A/C, PS, PB, AM radio w/rear seat speaker. Came with POP and I found the broadcast sheet within 1 hour of getting the car. It was inside the back of the front bucket seat.

The '72 is the lowest production of all H/Os, with 130 convertibles, 499 hardtops, 220 of the hardtops were sunroof-equipped, for a total production run of 629. Mine has the sunroof. All were equipped with the 455 motor and Turbo 400.

I have verified all the drive train numbers and they all are correct and matching and are VIN stamped. Absolutly no reason to believe that they are not born with components.

The interior looks brand new. The original, never down, spare is in the trunk and the trunk looks like it has never had anything in it.

The car, after clean-up will be a driver for local cruises and shows. I'm also considering driving it on next years power tour.

The car came out of the estate of a former member of The Smothers Brothers Oldsmobile racing team. It was his everyday driver and track car. It still has a couple of NHRA track access stickers on the windshield.

It really is one of the nicest unrestored cars I've ever seen.

Don

This car is optioned very much like a '72 HO that my best friend in high school won on a bet (yes a bet) with his father. We picked up our new '72 442 from Nortell Olds and the dealer showed the two of us the information on the new HO. He asked his dad to buy him the HO and his father later said to him that if you win class President for senior year, I'll get you that car you wanted. We spread the word at school and everyone voted for him and his dad kept his promise. He bought my friend a new '72 HO. It was a non W-30 motor with AC. No windows and no posi, the dealer installed an AM/FM 8 track in place of the AM radio. Could this be the same car??? We put glass packs on it in 1973.
We would park his HO next to our family orange 442 in the school parking lot. I have no idea of the VIN of his car. His last name was Minucciani and he was the original owner.

Don, your post wasn't up when I posted. Your car came from Washington, so not the car I knew. It is a beauty, though.

Nice find!
I am a huge olds fan. You just never seem them. I always run into everything in the GM gamily exect for 442's and HO's. Not sure why they do not get a lot of respect out there. My first car was a 1970 Cutlass SX with a 455. That thing won a lot of street races. Sorry, getting off the subject here.
Awesome HO!!!!!

Tim, cool story but not the same car. Mine was sold new in Seattle based on the POP info.

I recall seeing that car at local Olds shows in the Seattle area in the 80's.
In 1990 I purchased a 72 H/O hard top out of Seattle that was also sold new there.
I cannot recall the owners name of the time.
