Default L79 Acadian FS

Not sure if this one has been discussed here before. I found it for sale on Kijiji. Vehicle is located near Toronto. Very odd powertrain combo- L79, 3 speed on the column and a 3.08 non posi rear! Anyone know the car? Price seems fair for the rarity..

This car is real and probably the rarest L79 Acadian in existence. It came with only 2 options...the L79 engine and a radio. Unfortunately this car cannot be GM Canada documented as it's info is on damaged microfiche and is unreadable. However, the owner does have the POP and original owners manual showing it is an L79 and sold new at Chuck Carrick's in Tilbury, Ontario.

There were only 63 Acadian L79s built in 1966, most of them Canso Sport Deluxes. There is no breakdown from GM Canada on how many of each model were built, but probably no more than a dozen 2 door sedans.

The damaged microfiche curse happened to me too. When I checked with GM of Canada for my 87 Iroc Z, they found the page but it was barely readable. They ended up sending me what they had, free of charge. It did have enough to be able to tell it was my car, though.

That car is absolutely awesome. I love the "strippers", especially ones from Canada!

Bob,
How many cars are in the L79 registry? Is there a website?

Wheh! What a relief to know that you will not mind that we are bringing a couple of "strippers" with us to VetteFest in April. They will make nice "conversation pieces" so to speak. Glad I have your approval and you even gave it without me having to ask for it............

Fifteen cars in the registry to date, all GM Canada documented, except for the Acadian above. Ten are Chevy IIs, 3 Acadians and 2 1965 Beaumonts. There are 4 other Canadian L79s that I know exist, but either I haven't been able to track them down or the owners, for their own reasons, do not wish to have them in the registry.

No, there is no website. I've found since starting the registry 5 years ago, that most of these owners wish to remain 'under the radar' and don't want it widely known they have these cars. I respect this. I didn't give out info on mine, either. One of the L79 Chevy IIs was stolen and chopped 4 years ago. Only 195 Canadian L79 Chevy IIs were built, plus 63 Acadians and 23 Beaumonts, so anybody who has one owns a rare piece of Canadian auto heritage. The fact that they are GM documented makes them even more valuable. If anybody knows of any Canadian L79 Chevelles, please let me know. None have surfaced to date.
Bob
