Default 1970 GTO ID HELP....

I looked at a 2 owner '70 GTO convertible that was exported to Norway and brought back to US recently. The speedometer is in kilometers, automatic, tach on hood, everything is there it appears, not sure what engine it has (sent off for PHS info today), a/c, wrong wheels and steering wheel, needs restoration. Original blue car, now white. Does the fact that it was produced for export to Norway add any value to the car? I am going to assume it is a 400/350hp as most convertibles were in that year. If I post some photos can anyone help me identify as I know NOTHING about GTOs but looks like a solid car for $17K. Thanks.

Try Sean's website. Good info...

Ultimate GTO

Good luck and keep us posted. IMHO, export adds mystique and possibly a little value if you have details of its sojourn over the pond.

Besides the PHS docs, check the build plant as some '70 Goats were built at the Oshawa Canada plant...so if this export piece is one of 'em, the GM Canada Vintage docs should be available too..

Thanks and will keep everyone updated. I do not even know where to look for the engine ID info.. Plenty of books on Chevys, none on GTOs. The current owner bought it in Norway 25 years ago from the original Norwegian owner and has export/import docs, etc.. Was not able to really crawl around the car as I was there to look at a 3 owner, unrestored original 1954 corvette, also brought back from Norway! Can't afford the vette but a nice car also.

Pete,
The VIN has a "B" in it which denotes US assembly at Baltimore (don't remember the plant codes, getting old)??

Go here and scroll down and the pics will show you where the engine ID stamp should be: http://wallaceracing.com/enginesearch4.htm

Approx. 2,100 auto 'Verts built in '70. Post pics/questions and I'll see if I can help.

Great find and rare car, your production numbers are correct. Good option list and great colors...hope it still has it's original drive train!! FYI, the rear should be a 12 bolt

The owner assures me it is original, numbers matching and everything appears unmolested and correct under the hood and interior, except for missing rear valance and items mentioned above. I am going for a more thorough look tomorrow. Some rust concerns that need to be looked at before I pull the trigger. Thanks for your help, greatly appreciated.
