okay bruce.......I promised you this weekend so here ya go.
My very first car was this 1957 210 bel air sedan. I was 15 when my dad brought it home. It wasn’t bad looking but needed a lot of work. The guy my dad got it from said he just put quarters on it and was ready for paint. Boy was he wrong! Yes, there was some parts of the quarters that were new but the rest was bondo over an inch thick, so we replaced every panel on the car. Every nut and bolt was replaced with stainless (courtesy of United Air Lines where my dad worked). It started out with just a 267 motor so that I could get used to driving. The whole resto took 2 1/2 years of every weekend doing something different to it. Then that 267 motor started to smoke one day. So, the motor was pulled and found that there was 3 cracked rings in it. A friend of ours named John Rice had a blown small block that he took out of his dragster and was selling. We bought it and at the same time decided to have John narrow the rearend for that pro street look. Being 17 years old with a blown pro street car was way cool...but very expensive! We got the car done again just in time for the 1986 Super Chevy Show in Indianapolis. We didn’t win anything in the pro street class but they did do a nice magazine article on it that came out in Sept.'87 though. After a few years of doing the car show scene, I was getting bored with it. So, I sold the blown small block and built a 482 cu in big block and went racing. The car ran 11:30's on motor and went 9:92 'sprayin it'. Pretty fast for a big ol' sled. Then came a wife and 2 boys later-it was time to put a streetable big block in it. In went a 427 motor my dad put together from parts layin around the shop. That’s how it sits today. Now for a preview of the Chevelle. No story at this time-until I get it completed. Finding interior parts for a post car is really a pain so when its done (which is very close) I will do another write up for members rides. Enjoy the pictures guys! Jeff...I would like to thank you for sharing your way cool 57! It's neat that you've had the car so long...and that it was a feature in a magazine, too!
If you've never met Jeff or his dad Nick...you are in for a real treat...as they are the nicest people that you'd ever want to meet. Thanks again jeff! ![]() ![]()
