What's the ID? I have a 69 Camaro with this rear. I don't think it is original to the car, but not sure. Has 4:10's now. They were there when the car was purchased.
BU 0617 G E Other numbers: 38948601 I see someone posted on a 68 and it's value, so while I'm at it what about this one? How can I tell if it's orginal to the car? Anyway by using the cowl tag? Thanks guys.

Cowl tag will not give any clues about the rearend, my 69 Z has a "BU" coded rearend which is original to the car. 12 bolt camaro rearends are selling for $1000.00 and up around here.

If your car is a real Z from Norwood, it will likely have an X33 or X77 code on the tag, and the BU rear is likely also original, or at least from another 69 Z. As for what it's worth... if you were to offer a complete BU 12 bolt for 1000.00 I think you'd have people fighting over it.

looks like a June 17 69 rear, probably out of a 69Z (that is what most BU (3:73) rears came out of), probably not orig to the car.

I did not think the rear was original to the car. It was there when I got the car and is still working well. Drove it today some. Car codes out to a Norwood built standard 69 V8 with 711 standard black interior in 55 55 Azure Turquoise in the 32,000 sequence numbers. I'm learning on this stuff. My cowl has no X code, but I understand early 69's or before December builds did not. Does that mean there were no Z's or other ie SS etc before the X codes appeared? I know this is another question off the post topic.

Nope, Z/28 and SS were available from the beginning of the production year. It's just that the X code makes it a little easier to identify Z and SS. I say a "little" because there are lots of fake tags out there. Also X11 could be anything except SS396 and Z/28. (could be SS350, RS/SS350, RS, 6cyl, 327, 307, 350, COPO 427)

I sold a 68 BU coded rear at GM nats this year at carlisle and i couldn't sell it for $1500. I ended up giving it away for $1200 and it was super nice! cleaned and painted, new pinion seal etc.
