I have had a somewhat chronic problem with my 1968 Z28. Original mo 302 with stock exhaust manifolds. Car always cranks and starts right up cold. Runs great does not overheat. However after a drive of 20 minutes or longer, after shutting it off the starter cranks REAL slow almost like the battery is dyi

Sounds like the solenoid on the starter is tired and heat makes it even worse, get a rebuilt starter,or have somebody rebuild yours and that should fix the problem.

My 68 Z also had the same troubles for a bit. I had it rebuilt being the original starter for the car and have had no trouble since even with the hot summer.

Same problem here on my 69 Z/28 I just finished. The starter looked and checked out fine but after further investagation the guts were not hi tourqe that a z should have. We rebuilt it using the correct guts and its fine now, cold or hot.

I had the same problem once and it ended up being the battery. Not enough amps to turn over a fresh (very good compression) engine when hot.
